Ex-UTEP quarterback Wes Phillips joins Baylor staff

WACO, Texas -- Wes Phillips, the grandson of former Houston
Oilers and New Orleans Saints coach Bum Phillips, was named
Wednesday as Baylor's quarterbacks coach.
Phillips, a UTEP quarterback from 1999-2001, spent the past two
seasons as an assistant at West Texas A&M. He was on the same staff
with Lee Hays, who last week was named Baylor's new offensive
"He's a young and enthusiastic coach who has a tremendous
knowledge of the offensive system that we will be running," Baylor
coach Guy Morriss said of Phillips.
Morriss, a former NFL lineman, also said that he will take over
as the team's offensive line coach. Chris Lancaster will move from
that position to running backs coach.
Phillips, whose father is San Diego Chargers defensive
coordinator Wade Phillips, filled the staff vacancy created by the
resignation of running backs coach Gerald Carr.
