FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State hired Steve Hagan as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on Tuesday, replacing Frank Cignetti on coach Pat Hill's staff.
Hagan is a veteran assistant who coached quarterbacks and tight ends for the Cleveland Browns from 2001-04. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at California from 1999-2000 and spent two seasons at San Jose State before that.
Hagan has also coached at UNLV, Nevada and Kent State, and he worked for Lou Holtz at Notre Dame.
"He's a proven mentor of quarterbacks in the NFL and colleges," Hill said of Hagan. "[He's] a good leader and is highly organized. He's a perfect fit for what we need at this
Cignetti accepted a similar job at North Carolina earlier this month, leaving the Bulldogs after four successful seasons for a $200,000-a-year job with the Tar Heels.
Hill agreed to a contract extension through 2010 last week after interviewing with several NFL teams.
