Syracuse cornerback Clayton leaves school

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Senior cornerback Marcus Clayton of the
Syracuse Orange has withdrawn from school and returned to his
Florida home, effectively ending his college career.

Head coach Greg Robinson said Clayton wanted to work and support
a 4-month-old child. Robinson said Clayton left the program about
two weeks ago.

Clayton, who played in all but one game last season, had a shot
at starting this fall. He did not practice this spring after
surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle.

Meanwhile, the university was successful in its appeal to get
wide receiver Lavar Lobdell's freshman year of eligibility
reinstated by the NCAA.

Lobdell played against West Virginia and Buffalo last year
before a shoulder problem forced him to the sidelines for the rest
of the season. He had surgery to correct the problem and
participated in spring practice.
