Iowa State coach McCarney gets $175K raise

AMES, Iowa -- The dean of Big 12 coaches is getting a raise.

Iowa State coach Dan McCarney has agreed to a new contract that
will boost his annual salary to $1.1 million through 2010, bringing
his compensation up to the middle of the pack for the conference.

McCarney's contract was not extended, but his adjusted salary
represents a raise of $175,000. According to The Des Moines
Register, McCarney now ranks sixth among Big 12 coaches in annual

McCarney said Monday that his entire staff got raises as well.

He said the pay hikes represent an effort by new athletic
director Jamie Pollard to bring the coaching staff's salaries up to
par with the rest of the conference.
