GMAC Bowl moves to day before BCS title game

The GMAC Bowl jumped in with the big boys, rescheduling to the day before the national championship game in 2007.

The bowl in Mobile, Ala., between Conference USA and Mid American or Western Athletic Conferences teams has been played the week before Christmas the past seven years but will be broadcast by ESPN on Jan. 7, 2007, at 8 p.m. ET.

"This move puts the GMAC Bowl in a unique and exciting position on the college bowl calendar for the upcoming season," MAC commissioner Rick Chryst said.

GMAC Financial Services has sponsored the game since its inception in 1999 and has extended its commitment through 2010.

"To play in prime time the night before the BCS National Championship Game offers the City of Mobile, and the GMAC Bowl unbelievable exposure," bowl president Jerry Silverstein said.

Toledo routed UTEP 45-13 in the 2005 GMAC Bowl.
