Florida State LB Ball out for season with torn ligament

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State freshman linebacker
Marcus Ball will miss the rest of the season after tearing a
ligament in his left knee in the 55-7 victory over Rice on

Ball hurt his knee on kickoff coverage in the third quarter.
Earlier in the game, he returned an interception 54 yards for the
19th-ranked Seminoles.

The freshman had made an instant impact for Florida State, as a
staple on third down defensive packages, and anchoring the punt
coverage. He also played on both kickoff coverage and punt returns.

Ball, the younger brother of Georgia Tech quarterback Reggie Ball, is tied for fourth on the team in tackles with 13, while also
recording two pass break-ups.

The Seminoles (3-1) are off this weekend. Their next game is
Oct. 5 at North Carolina State (2-2).
