Ikegwuonu suspended from practice, competition

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin suspended sophomore defensive back Jack Ikegwuonu, who along with his twin brother is facing burglary and trespassing charges.

Athletic director Barry Alvarez said Friday that Ikegwuonu was suspended from competition and practice but his status could change as more facts become available. In the meantime, he will remain on official squad lists and can receive support services from the university, Alvarez said.

Ikegwuonu, a cornerback and All-Big Ten Conference pick, was arrested with his brother on Saturday by police in DeKalb, Ill. They were accused of breaking into an off-campus apartment and trying to steal an Xbox game console.

The brothers face residential burglary and criminal trespass charges.

William Ikegwuonu is a safety for the Northern Illinois University. A school spokeswoman said Thursday he was already suspended indefinitely from the team.

Unless the suspension is lifted, Jack Ikegwuonu will not play with the Badgers in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla. on Jan. 1.
