Indiana head coach Terry Hoeppner received a two-year contract extension through the 2011 season.
Hoeppner told the school's radio network Saturday about the extension in a halftime interview during the Charlotte-Indiana basketball game.
"He's the right guy for the job and he has proved that in his first two seasons here,'' Indiana athletic director Rick Greenspan said, according to the Indianapolis Star. "He's a strong representative for the institution and his enthusiasm for the program has been contagious. He's the perfect man to head the IU football program.''
Greenspan and Hoeppner will still discuss increasing compensation and benefits, the Star reported.
The Hoosiers went 5-7 this season and is 9-14 in two season with the Hoosiers. Hoeppner left the team briefly in September to undergo brain surgery to remove a tumor, a procedure he also underwent in December 2005.
