Minnesota's VanDeSteeg charged with assaulting two men

GLENCOE, Minn. -- University of Minnesota football player
William VanDeSteeg was charged Monday with assaulting two men
outside a liquor store.

According to a criminal complaint filed in McLeod County
District Court, VanDeSteeg was arrested early Sunday morning at the
Biscay Liquor store in Biscay and was later charged with two counts
of fifth-degree assault.

One of the men told deputies that VanDeSteeg grabbed him by the
neck and lifted him above the ground, the complaint said.

VanDeSteeg, 21, a junior, led the Gophers in sacks the past
season and was a team captain. He graduated from Glencoe-Silver
Lake High School.

Biscay is about 50 miles west of Minneapolis.
