Texas sits 3 due to academic issues

Three Texas players will miss the Longhorns' season-opening game Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe due to what the school termed "unresolved NCAA academic eligibility issues."

Senior defensive back Deon Beasley, junior wide
receiver Brandon Collins and sophomore defensive back Christian Scott will not play against the War Hawks.

Scott was listed as a co-safety on the Longhorns' depth chart this week. Beasley was a backup at right cornerback and Collins was a backup at flanker.

The school announced the three players will be permitted to practice with the team but won't be eligible to play until the issues are resolved.

Beasley has played in 33 career games, starting 11, and posted 84 tackles, 16 pass breakups and three interceptions. Collins has played in 19 career games, starting three, and caught 35 passes for 430 yards and three touchdowns. Scott played in 13 games as a redshirt freshman last season, with 15 tackles, three passes deflections, a caused fumble and one recovered fumble.
