San Jose St. hires 4 assistants

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Four-time Pro Bowl selection Bryant Young, a mainstay on the defensive line for the San Francisco 49ers, was one of four assistant coaches hired by San Jose State's Mike MacIntyre on Thursday.

Hugh Freeze, Tim Landis and Gary Bernardi were also hired.

The coaches were to be formally introduced Friday.

Young, who played 14 years in the NFL, was named to the NFL All-Decade Team for the 1990s, which culminated in 1999 with his earning the Comeback Player of the Year award. He coached at Notre Dame last year.

Freeze spent the past two years as the head coach at NAIA Lambuth University. Landis coached at Bucknell the past seven years and Bernardi has been at UNLV since 2005.
