Report: Iowa players feeling better

The 13 Iowa football players who ended up in the hospital after strenuous workouts last month plan to participate in spring drills, the Iowa City Press-Citizen reported Wednesday.

Iowa assistant coach Eric Johnson said the players, who suffered from rhabdomyolysis -- a disease caused by intense workouts -- were feeling better and getting back into a routine, the newspaper reported.

"As far as we know, everybody's fairly healthy," Johnson said, according to the Press-Citizen. "Everybody's back in class."

Johnson said the school continues to investigate what caused the hospitalizations.

"We're still in a research mode right now," Johnson told the newspaper. "We're looking at everything."

Iowa's spring practice runs from March 21 to April 16.

"It's going to be a slow process working the players back into the fold, but as far as we know, they'll all be ready to go for spring ball," Johnson told the newspaper. "They're slowly getting back into the flow."
