Wofford 55, Elon 20

ELON, N.C. -- Dane Romero scored three touchdowns and Wofford scored on four of its first five possessions en route to a 55-20 victory over Elon on Saturday.

Romero scored two first-quarter touchdowns as the Terriers (6-1, 4-0 Southern Conference) took a 34-13 halftime lead on the way to handing Elon (7-2, 5-1) its first conference loss.

Romero finished with 87 rushing yards and three touchdowns, also scoring on a 1-yard run in the third quarter.

Mitch Allen added 81 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Ben Widmyer had 59 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for Wofford.

Widmyer also was 11 of 17 for 143 yards and a 59-yard touchdown pass to Andy Strickland, who had 101 yards on six catches.

Scott Riddle kept Elon close, going 30 of 45 for 263 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions.

Terrell Hudgins had 11 catches for 120 yards and a score, and Brandon Newsome had 84 yards on 19 carries for Elon.

Wofford outgained the Phoenix 473-338.
