Regarding the upcoming proposal that would let football coaches talk to recruits at their high schools in the spring, wiping out the "bump rule," a Power 5 head coach raised a red flag on this one: "These kids are going to be out of class for a month, month and a half," the coach told me recently. "They're not going to go to class. Coaches will be waiting in line to talk to them. The kids won't be going to class, which is not good. I don't think we want that."

Moving forward, a few interesting proposals will go to a vote of the Division I Council in April. Included is one that would turn the spring evaluation period in football recruiting (April 15-May 31) into a contact period, during which coaches could visit with prospects at their high schools. Another proposal would allow coaches to talk publicly (on social media and to the media) about recruits. Also, there's a proposal designed to ease the requirements for players seeking an extension of their five-year clock.
