Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson said he will explore the option of leaving school early for the NFL draft. Carlson, a junior, said there isn't set on a specific round he'd like to hit when his NFL feedback comes in. However staying in school is his top option right now. "I'm definitely leaning toward staying at Auburn."

Oklahoma receiver Dede Westbrook said he had no idea he was going to be a Heisman finalist until his name was announced Monday night. He said his jaw dropped. "This wasn't part of the plan," Westbrook said. Teammate Baker Mayfield was much more certain. "I knew Dede would be there."

Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson said he was pumped to be a Heisman finalist, and said his teammates have told him to "bring it home." As for being the first player in Louisville history to be a Heisman finalist, he said, "That's amazing."

LSU's Ed Orgeron received a one-time payment of $675,000 to serve as the Tigers' interim head coach for two months according to documents released by the school on Wednesday. In addition, interim offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger received a one-time payment of $75,000 upon his temporary promotion from tight ends coach and defensive line coach Pete Jenkins was paid roughly $25,000 per month after joining the staff as a temporary employee on Sept. 25.

Alabama backup QBs Cooper Bateman and David Cornwell are transferring, but a source told ESPN that Bateman will stay on through the College Football Playoff. Seeing as Jalen Hurts runs the football as much as he does, keeping an experienced backup on the roster is pivotal. No word yet on whether Cornwell will finish out the season.

As the Houston Chronicle first reported, Oklahoma offense coordinator Lincoln Riley is no longer in the running for the Houston head coaching job, according to a source. Houston's search is now focused on the two in-house candidates, defensive coordinator and interim head coach Todd Orlando and offensive coordinator Major Applewhite, as well as Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin. The Cougars could have a coach named by the end of the week.

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany on the playoff selections and process: "Around the edges, there's always going to be an argument. There was in Year 1, maybe there wasn't in Year 2, there was in Year 3. So there was a cluster there, and the committee resolved it as they saw best. We wanted the human element, we got the human element, we created a document with some standards, but they're flexible. Everybody wants to know, what's the algorithm? Well, there is no algorithm. There's standards applied by people for the facts of the day."
