Early on in fall camp Oregon coach Mark Helfrich thought QB Dakota Prukop was being a bit careless with the ball, turning it over too much. But, in the last three weeks, that has improved as Prukop has settled in more.

Oregon running back Royce Freeman was letting the fall camp beard go through most of August. He said that he really hadn't had any time to take care of it, and even if he did, there was no reason since he only saw his teammates. He told me last week that he would shave once he couldn't "look at [himself] in the mirror anymore." Looks like that day finally came.

Oregon DC Brady Hoke wasn't thrilled with how the defense performed in its final scrimmage today. When asked if he wishes the group was further along, he said that's you always want. But the fact that he really wasn't happy with this scrimmage a week out from their season opener isn't a good sign for the Ducks.

USC coach Clay Helton reported some good news on second-team All-Pac-12 tackle Chad Wheeler, who has not practiced in two weeks due to plantar fasciitis. Wheeler did not report any pain after running on a modified treadmill, but it's still unclear if he'll be ready to play against Alabama. China Edoga would likely start at left tackle if Wheeler is unable to go.

There's some interesting nuance to Stanford's QB situation. David Shaw named Ryan Burns the starter, but he also said that Keller Chryst will get playing time against Kansas State. This differs from the Cardinal's last QB transition in 2012. That year, Shaw tapped Josh Nunes as the exclusive guy at the start of the season. Eventual starter Kevin Hogan did not begin seeing playing time until later in the year.
