Having the Virginia Tech marching band is a solid way to get a tailgate going...

One area to watch for the Miami offense against Virginia Tech is explosive pass plays. The Hurricanes have struggled in this category. Brad Kaaya has 21 pass plays that have gone 20 yards or more, ninth in the ACC. Last year, he had 55 pass plays that went 20 or more yards, second in the ACC to Deshaun Watson. The Hokies struggled to contain big pass plays in a loss to Syracuse last week, so perhaps Miami will try to take a few shots downfield to open up the game.

If Ohio State wins at Penn State on Saturday, it will be the Buckeyes' 18th straight road victory in Big Ten play. That would be a league record, which Ohio State currently shares with Michigan, which won 17 in a row between 1988-1992.

Duke will wear these slick Battleship Grey helmets against Virginia Tech on Nov. 5 to honor the 75th anniversary of the Rose Bowl game played in Durham, N.C. The logo was selected because it was used by the 88th Infantry Division in World War I and World War II. The division became known as the "Blue Devils."

Stanford WR Trent Irwin pinpoints what exactly he thinks has tripped up the Cardinal offense, which ranks last nationally in red zone trips and last in conference scoring. Stanford led the Pac-12 in scoring last year. Irwin's theory points to offensive energy.

I asked QB coach Tavita Pritchard about 2007, when he was part of a 2-QB rotation at Stanford. Pritchard's answer shed some light on what the Cardinal hope to attain by using both Ryan Burns and Keller Chryst.

If Ohio State offensive coordinator Ed Warinner is a candidate for the Purdue job, that's news to him. "That stuff comes up and the only way I find out about it is if somebody texts me or [the media] brings it up," Warinner said. "Otherwise, I'm just grinding, trying to get this football team better. ... I focus on that, and those [other] things take care of themselves. I don't have to get involved in any of that stuff. I'm just going to take care of my job."
