Updated Big Ten projections after OSU's upset loss last night. Michigan is now the favorite and Purdue (!) has a 1 in 20 shot at the conference title.

After Ohio State lost to Purdue, Notre Dame now has the best Strength of Record in the country. This is purely about accomplishment -- how difficult was it to achieve the record you have? Harder to go 7-1 with LSU's schedule than undefeated with Clemson or Alabama's so far.

A loss to Purdue didn't eliminate the Buckeyes, but Ohio State's chance to reach the playoff dropped 47 percentage points. Meanwhile no one improved its playoff outlook yesterday more than Michigan, who is now the fourth-most likely team to reach the CFP.

One happy guy: Tyler Trent. A true inspiration.

Ohio State's loss to Purdue doesn't eliminate the Buckeyes, but it puts pressure on them to finish as a one-loss Big Ten champ, which means beating Michigan on Nov. 24. According to ESPN's Playoff Predictor, Ohio State's chances of making the playoff dropped to 42 percent. The loss also opened the door for Oklahoma to get back into the debate if the Sooners can finish as a one-loss champ.

Can't help but think of last year when Ohio State could not make the playoff because of a 31-point loss to Iowa. Losing by 29 at Purdue seems just as tough to overcome, although, as tonight showed, the Buckeyes need to worry about finding a running game more than they do making the playoff.

A magical weekend in Pullman is coming to an end, and Washington State is reveling in being the last one-loss team in the Pac-12. Cougars have road games at Stanford & Colorado, and the Apple Cup, left. That may impress the committee. But Wazzu's three non-conference opponents have one win combined over FBS competition, and it came vs. New Mexico State.

Mississippi State didn't throw it much on Saturday night but even when they did, it was enough to hurt them. Nick Fitzgerald threw two first-quarter interceptions that eventually doomed the Dawgs against the elite LSU defense. Their defense and run game is good; they have to find a way to be effective in the air moving forward.

No. 5 LSU comes out with the win it needed (19-3 over Mississippi State) to keep its College Football Playoff hopes intact but suffered a loss in the process, as a fourth quarter targeting call on All-American LB Devin White means the Tigers will be without their defensive leader for the first half of their next game: Alabama.

Ivan Maisel ESPN Senior Writer

For those of us who have paid little attention to Purdue before tonight, yes, the Boilermakers started 0-3. But those three losses came by a total of eight points. Purdue won last three (BC/Neb/Ill) by 70 points. Young defense has made huge strides over first half of season.

Not so fast, my friend! Oregon outscored Wazzu 17-0 in the third quarter to turn a would-be rout into a 10-point game. After managing just 39 total yards in the first half, Oregon scored on all three of its possessions coming out of halftime.

Gut punch for LSU: All-American linebacker Devin White ejected for targeting in the fourth quarter vs. Mississippi State. The Tigers have this game in hand but their next game? Alabama. They'll be without their defensive leader in the first half vs. the Crimson Tide. Huge blow for the Tigers.
