Devon Allen is back with the Ducks and transitioning from track-shape to football-shape. With how deep the Oregon wide receiver corps are this year it's not necessary for the Ducks to rush him back but he'll certainly be a big boost to the unit when he's ready full go. W

Nebraska offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf tells me it's important for QB Tommy Armstrong Jr. to use "all of the play" this season. "Some of the interceptions had maybe better options," Langsdorf said. "Part of it is not asking the quarterback to do too much or having too many options for the receivers. Being able to say, ‘If we're getting this particular coverage, this guy should be good, and if we get a different look, we've got to move on to another player.'" Armstrong eclipsed 3,000 pass yards last year but also threw 16 interceptions, second most in the FBS.

Learned today from CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock that had Lloyd Carr stepped down from the committee before August, he would have been replaced. There is no specific cutoff date, but Hancock wants all committee members at the Aug. meetings held this week. "We want every committee member to have sufficient time to plan," Hancock said.

Oregon WR Devon Allen said people didn't really recognize him too much in Rio, but when he did, it was "Hey! You're the guy that runs track and plays football."

The CFP summer meetings have ended and the biggest news is the announcement of the recusals for the season, which are the same as last year for the old committee members but now factor in three new members. Herb Deromedi (Central Michigan), Oregon AD Rob Mullens (can't vote for his Ducks), and Jeff Bower is recused from Southern Miss.

Early on in fall camp Oregon coach Mark Helfrich thought QB Dakota Prukop was being a bit careless with the ball, turning it over too much. But, in the last three weeks, that has improved as Prukop has settled in more.

Oregon running back Royce Freeman was letting the fall camp beard go through most of August. He said that he really hadn't had any time to take care of it, and even if he did, there was no reason since he only saw his teammates. He told me last week that he would shave once he couldn't "look at [himself] in the mirror anymore." Looks like that day finally came.

Oregon DC Brady Hoke wasn't thrilled with how the defense performed in its final scrimmage today. When asked if he wishes the group was further along, he said that's you always want. But the fact that he really wasn't happy with this scrimmage a week out from their season opener isn't a good sign for the Ducks.

East Carolina athletic director Jeff Compher also sent this letter to the Big 12 claiming ECU "would deliver the entire state of North Carolina" if invited.
