TCU already with 6 first-quarter first downs vs Oklahoma State today. That matches the total first downs the Cowboys had allowed in the first quarter in its first 3 games combined.

Texas A&M outlasts Arkansas 50-43 in a wild overtime game that included six lead changes after halftime, 34 fourth quarter points, nine plays of 30-plus yards and a missed call that cost the Aggies four points. It's a huge win for Aggies' coach Kevin Sumlin, who has been under a lot of pressure and can't afford many more losses, and a blow to Arkansas coach Bret Bielema, who also has his fair share of critics and has yet to beat Texas A&M since taking over the Razorbacks in 2013.

Today, Stephen Carr becomes the first true freshman to start at USC at tailback since the legendary Dillon Baxter in 2010. Ronald Jones is sitting out this game with a leg injury.

James Blackman was hardly awful in his first start for Florida State, but the Seminoles looked downright bad around him, rushing for just 104 yards, going 4-of-14 on third down, getting flagged for 11 penalties, turning the ball over in the red zone and turning 8 trips into NC State territory into just one TD.

Jaylen Samuels had 18 touches for N.C. State & produced a rush TD, a receiving TD, & a pass for a 1st down. Nyheim Hines ran for 94 yards & moved the chains three times in the 4th quarter.

Many believed the Florida State defense would set the tone with a true freshman starting at quarterback. But NC State converted every crucial third down in the fourth quarter. It's a stark difference to the reputation that has preceded the Wolfpack, because of the many close losses they've had thanks to fourth-quarter mistakes.

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

Florida State's 0-2 start will be the story, but this win is huge for NC State coach Dave Doeren, who needs to show tangible progress in ACC games to secure his position for 2018. NC State had found ways to lose games like today's, but solid red zone defense and just enough offense propels Doeren's team to a 3-1 start.

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

Dave Doeren got the signature win he has been searching for at NC State, after so many tough losses over the last several years. His team owned the line of scrimmage, and All-American defensive end Bradley Chubb was the best player on the field.

Free football at JerryWorld: Arkansas and Texas A&M tied at 43 going into overtime. It's been a wild one, with nine combined plays that have gone for at least 30 yards and 34 combined points scored in the fourth quarter.

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

James Blackman ended up throwing for nearly 300 yards in his first start for Florida State, but an inability to score in the red zone and an inconsistent run game hurt the Seminoles, off to their first 0-2 start since 1989.

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

Florida State has now had seven trips to the NC State red zone and scored just one touchdown. You can bet red-zone offense will be a major emphasis in practice this week.

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

New Tennessee athletic director John Currie does not want to fire Butch Jones, and has made that clear. But games like today's -- a listless performance against an 0-4 UMass team that Tennessee couldn't put away until the final minute, before a largely empty Neyland Stadium -- hurt Jones. The Vols haven't looked great in three of four games, despite a 3-1 record. The Georgia game will be huge for the fifth-year coach.

Can this New York Jets fan predict the future? He sure hopes so as he's already invested in a Sam Darnold jersey in the green and white. Darnold and USC ready to take on Cal here in Berkeley.

NC State has made the plays when it absolutely needed to and just imposed its will on a Florida State defense many expected would take charge with uncertainty on offense. Its offensive line just did what it wanted on that drive.

I love Willie Fritz's decision to go for fourth-and-1 and the win on Tulane's home field with less than a minute left. It pays off and the Green Wave reached the end zone on the next play to beat Army 21-17. Coaches want to instill confidence in their teams, and Fritz just did there.

Boston College will be without senior receiver Charlie Callinan "for an extended time" due to a foot injury, according to the school. Callinan is BC's second-leading receiver (9 catches, 97 yards). The Eagles take on Clemson in Death Valley today.

If you are looking for one reason Florida State has struggled in the red zone today, look no further than NC State defensive end Bradley Chubb. He has dominated an overmatched offensive line, forced one red-zone fumble and posted two red-zone sacks.

I think I could spend an entire game just watching Florida State safety Derwin James. I wouldn't miss much. He's always near the ball. And his anticipation is almost eerie.
