ESPN Stats and Information

ESPN's efficiency ratings capture many things that aren't reflected in box score stats. Alabama entered this week with a 98.5 defensive efficiency rating (out of 100), by far the best for a team through seven games in the last decade, and the Crimson Tide had posted a defensive efficiency rating of more than 90 in every game this season. Through Week 7, Alabama's defense was projected to add about 18 points per game to the team's net scoring margin, which is about four more points than any other defense in the country.

Penn State players step off the blue buses and walk between a tunnel made by thousands of fans. Kickoff against No. 2 Ohio State is at 8 p.m.

No. 1 Alabama leads No. 6 Texas A&M 33-14 with 12:30 to play. The ViewFromVegas is the Crimson Tide closed between -17.5 and -18.5 here in Vegas, so right now it's covering the closing spread. However, earlier in the week, the line was up to Alabama -19.5 and even -20 at some books, so Texas A&M bettors who took those points are still covering. The over/under of 59 is also still in doubt.

Greg Ostendorf ESPN Staff Writer

Auburn failed to reach 20 points in three of its first four games this year. The Tigers have 21 points against Arkansas, and we haven't even hit the end of the first quarter.

When does the band go on? West Virginia fans lighting up the stands at Milan Puskar Stadium as night falls.

Josh Moyer ESPN Staff Writer

Penn State arrived at Beaver Stadium about a half-hour ago -- and they were greeted by thousands of fans. This will almost certainly be the Nittany Lions' biggest home crowd of the season, and it'll likely be the loudest road venue No. 2 Ohio State sees.

Davis reaches over defender for TD grab

Western MIchigan's Corey Davis shows tremendous concentration by coming down with a 31-yard touchdown with a Eastern Michigan defender in his way.

David Lombardi ESPN Staff Writer

"Defensively, I don't know if you can play better. I don't know if you can play harder." David Shaw laments the offense's wasting of that performance, which held Colorado nearly 30 points under his average.

David Shaw says that Stanford has been "outstanding" offensively during the last two weeks of practice. "We have to translate that to game day."

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

Since allowing 34 points in a loss to Virginia Tech two weeks ago, North Carolina has given up a combined 27 points in wins over Miami and Virginia (note: one of those TDs against the Cavaliers was on a fake field goal). That marks their best effort over a two-game stretch this season. North Carolina still needs Virginia Tech to lose to get the upper-hand in the Coastal, but it appears the Tar Heels defense has turned a corner.

Missouri's Damarea Crockett has his fourth rushing touchdown today, tied for the most by a Missouri player since Brad Smith had five in one game in 2003.
