In the spring, I asked Baker Mayfield who would be OU's breakout player this season. His answer: "Rodney Anderson." Anderson just broke out at K-State with 147 rushing yards and the game-winning 22-yard TD scamper around the edge that gave the Sooners a 42-35 win.

Notre Dame QB Brandon Wimbush had his best practice of the season Thursday, and it has carried over to this game, as he fired a perfect back-shoulder throw to Kevin Stepherson for a 23-yard score. Coach Brian Kelly said that Wimbush's anticipation when to release the ball is rapidly improving. Combined with his perimeter rushing skill, he will be very tough to stop.

Consecutive three-and-outs for Michigan's offense doesn't give Don Brown and the defense much time to settle down and make adjustments. Michigan needs to find a way to slow things down if they're going to keep this game competitive.

Back and forth we go. Kansas State ties it at 35 on an Alex Delton-to-Isaiah Zuber throw. Baker Mayfield is going to get it back with a chance to win.

It looked like the entire Penn State sideline just broke out in a sprint on Saquon Barkley's first carry of the game. They couldn't catch him. Neither could Michigan. The Heisman candidate and his team are off and running early.

Back in business. Kansas State's Colby Moore recovers an errant snap on an Oklahoma punt. Wildcats are in the red zone, down 28-21.

Alex Scarborough ESPN Staff Writer

Nick Saban said, "We had to have a little come-to-Jesus meeting about, what is this all about?" in terms of maintaining focus through all the hype of being ranked No. 1 and 36-point favorites.

Alex Scarborough ESPN Staff Writer

Saban's assessment of his team through 8 games? "I'm not really satisfied and I don't think anyone should be with what we've done," he said.

Alex Scarborough ESPN Staff Writer

Saban: "The toughest games that we have and the best teams we'll play are ahead of us."

Megan Moureaux ESPN

Oklahoma takes the lead on Baker Mayfield's second rushing touchdown. A two-point conversion throw to Dimitri Flowers puts the Sooners up 28-21 on Kansas State in what has become a dominant second-half performance.

Alex Scarborough ESPN Staff Writer

Saban: "There was a lot of pride going on out there -- in the stands and on the field."

Alex Scarborough ESPN Staff Writer

Saban on going back with Tua Tagovailoa after the pick-6: "We stuck with him to see that we have confidence in him."

Miami has certainly not made anything look easy, but the Hurricanes are 6-0 after their third straight game came down to making big plays in the fourth quarter. Syracuse valiantly refused to give up, and Eric Dungey deserves credit for bringing his team back and making it game that went to the wire.

The smell of cigars is strong around Bryant-Denny Stadium right now. For the 11th season in a row, Alabama fans enjoy the tradition of winners in the rivalry game.

Coming out of the nonconference portion of the schedule, Arizona State was 1-2 and had lost 8 of 9 dating back to last year. Now? The Sun Devils sit at 3-1 in the Pac-12 South and can take control of the division next week with a win against USC.

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

Travis Homer's longest run against Syracuse came at the most important time: His 33-yard touchdown gave Miami a 27-19 lead late in the game. The Hurricanes have had a tough time all afternoon getting anything going in the ground game, so that had to be especially rewarding.

Michigan kicker Quinn Nordin has a unique pregame warm up. He tries to hit the side of the upright from the back of the end zone.

Miami's last two games have come down to the wire in the fourth quarter. In those two, the Hurricanes had to come back to win. But against Syracuse, they have to prove they can hold on to a lead, up 20-19 against a surging Orange squad.

Despite being outplayed for large portions of the game, Syracuse now has a chance to take its first lead midway through the fourth quarter. The Hurricanes just failed on a fourth-down attempt to give the Orange this huge opportunity.
