So what is the Saban effect? You're starting to hear that phrase more and more around the SEC with Alabama winning four of the last eight national championships under Nick Saban and going 45-5 in its last 50 games against SEC foes. Maybe the best explanation for what it means is simply this: Since Saban arrived at Alabama in 2007, the other 11 schools that were in the SEC at the time have had 34 different head coaches, including at least three different coaches at eight of the 11 schools.

When asked about Oklahoma's collapse in 2014, which included a 48-14 home loss to upcoming opponent Baylor, Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield jokingly replied, "I blame Katy Perry." During GameDay earlier that season, Perry admitted her crush on then starting QB Trevor Knight and told him to, "Call me!" Knight never did. The Sooners were undefeated at the time but then tumbled to a 4-5 finish.

Texas coach Tom Herman said he didn't go for 2 in overtime because the Longhorns called their go-to 2-point play -- the tight end drag pass to Cade Brewer -- to score the touchdown from three yards out. "We would've had to devise a play on the spot," Herman said.
