Former Cal and Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes has emerged as the leading candidate for SMU's coaching vacancy, according to sources. A deal hasn't been finalized, but Dykes could be hired as early as Monday. Dykes, who is 41-44 as an FBS head coach, spent this past season as an offensive analyst at TCU. Jeff Traylor, SMU's associate head coach named interim coach after Chad Morris' departure to Arkansas, also was considered.

ESPN 300 athlete Bryan Addison committed to UCLA on Sunday night. Addison, the No. 209 ranked prospect out of Gardena, California, is the first ESPN 300 commitment for new coach Chip Kelly and his staff. He gives the Bruins five ESPN 300 commitments in the 2018 class.

Florida hires Houston offensive coordinator Brian Johnson as an offensive assistant. He reunites with Dan Mullen. Johnson spent three seasons as Mullen's quarterbacks coach at Mississippi State, where he worked with Dak Prescott.

Former Cal quarterback Max Gilliam announced he will transfer to UNLV. Gilliam redshirted during his only season in Berkeley and transferred to Saddleback Junior College after coming out of spring ball at No. 3 on the depth chart. He will compete at UNLV with Armani Rogers, who started nine games as a redshirt freshman this season and was named Mountain West Freshman of the Year. At one time, both Rogers and Gilliam were both committed to Cal.

Sources: UCLA is hiring former Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads to coach defensive backs. Sports Illustrated first reported the move. Rhoads most recently coached the secondary at Arkansas. He joins a defensive staff that will include Don Pellum and Jerry Azzinaro, both former Kelly assistants at Oregon.

Washington State leading receiver Tavares Martin has been dismissed from the team due to a violation of team rules, according to a team spokesman. Martin led the Cougars with 70 catches for 831 yards and nine touchdowns during the regular season.

For the umpteenth time this weekend, Baker Mayfield was just asked if he wanted his Heisman statue in Norman to be of him spiking the OU flag in the turf (like at Ohio State). "That wasn't the highlight of my career," he said. I asked him what was? "That hadn't happened yet."

Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley was quick to credit former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops for believing in Baker Mayfield first. Riley said it was Mayfield's second Sooners game (at Tennessee, Week 2 in 2015) when he realized how successful this team could be under him. It was about the way he competed in the 31-24 win with 100,000-plus screaming against him.

Baker Mayfield says he didn't write anything down for his speech. He got what he wanted to say together in his head as he got dressed. Felt that kind of prep would allow him to better show his emotion.
