Orange cut into Irish lead

Syracuse QB Eric Dungey reaches for the pylon to make it a 50-33 game. Notre Dame has the ball and the lead after successfully receiving the onside kick on ESPN.

Today marked Urban Meyer's fifth shutout of 50 points or more at Ohio State. That broke a tie with Woody Hayes for most by a Buckeyes head coach since the end of World War II.

Syracuse gets on the board in the second half, but it's been a comedy of errors for the Orange on special teams today. They bobbled the hold on the extra point, meaning they now trail by three possessions (50-33) instead of two. They also had an XP attempt blocked and returned for two points in the first quarter, in addition to allowing a kickoff return for a TD in the opening frame. The Orange simply can't afford miscues like that with the defense that they have, as Cuse has lost 11 points on special teams today.

Huge upset win on the road for Northwestern at Iowa. Wildcats may have saved their season, while the Hawkeyes, who have now lost two of their last three, have a lot of issues to address. Iowa dominated the lines of scrimmage in last year's magical 12-0 regular season but got outplayed in the trenches again today. Nebraska and Wisconsin the clear front runners in West Division -- for now.

Nothing out of the ordinary in Lincoln during the national anthem after a politically charged week. Both teams, as usual, were in their locker rooms during its playing, which came after a moment of silence for longtime former Nebraska offensive line coach Milt Tenopir, who died this week.

No rust after the bye week for No. 2 Ohio State. The Buckeyes picked up where they left off with a record-setting offensive performance and pitched a defensive shutout to cruise past Rutgers to open Big Ten play with a 58-0 win.

The Vols are here too. Classic road whites.

Hillary Clinton? Donald Trump? The Auburn student section has another candidate in mind for this year's presidential election ... Daniel Carlson. The junior kicker is a perfect 12 of 12 on field goals this season for Auburn.

Gators lead in ugly game in Nashville

The Vanderbilt punter mishandles the snap and Florida recovers. Then Florida fumbled in the red zone. The No. 23 Gators lead 13-6 in the fourth quarter on SEC Network.

We'll learn more about Miami next week against Florida State, but Mark Richt and his assistants have done an exceptional job. Depth was a major concern for the Canes entering the season, especially on defense, but coordinator Manny Diaz and his staff are improving the unit. Miami entered today leading the FBS in points allowed (7.7) and percentage of plays for zero or negative yards (48.6). The defense wasn't as sharp at Georgia Tech but still contributed a touchdown and allowed just three conversions on 12 third-down attempts.

Not a bad day at the office for J.T. Barrett: Set a school record for passing touchdowns in the first half, spend the entire fourth quarter watching the Ohio State offense from the sideline.

Iowa responds with long TD drive

After falling behind to Northwestern by two scores, Iowa responded with a 9-play, 75-yard drive. LeShun Daniels Jr.'s 1-yard run makes it a 7-point game in the fourth quarter on ESPNU.

Washington's win was the first time this decade that Stanford or Oregon lost to another Pac-12 North team (other than themselves) by more than one score. In fact, the Cardinal and Ducks were 48-2 against the rest of the Pac-12 North this decade before the Huskies' win. We are finally witnessing a transfer in the balance of power in that division.

Amba Etta-Tawo is the first Syracuse player to record 5 straight 100-yard receiving games. The closest any Orange player previously came was 1995, when Marvin Harrison had 5 in a 6-game stretch. Etta-Tawo is the 10th player in program history to have 5 100-yard receiving games. All of these stats are courtesy of ESPN Stats and Information.

Boston College has built a big lead on Buffalo thanks to its passing game, unusual considering how much the Eagles have relied on the run. But Patrick Towles and an improving receiving corps has allowed BC to have more balance.
