LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron said it was tough saying goodbye to Les Miles but he can feel new energy from this team. When it comes to the offense, Orgeron said, "You can't put a lot in in one week, but we're doing to do the best that we can." Thinks this team will be fired up against Missouri. "I expect our people to come out and play with a lot of emotion." Says this isn't about offense, defense or special teams, "it's about one team."

Saturday's matchup between Oklahoma State and Texas figures to be a massive swing game for both teams. Oklahoma State has never started out 2-3 under Mike Gundy. Texas is currently an FPI in three of its next four games, not including its trip to Stillwater.

Increasingly, you hear references to the "Nick Saban effect" and the way his four national championships in the past seven years has ratcheted up pressure on coaches like never before. Well, with Les Miles' firing at LSU, that means there have been a staggering 24 head coaching changes in the SEC since Saban arrived at Alabama in 2007. And seven of the coaches leaving or being fired had won either a national title or SEC title during their career.

The Kentucky-Alabama series is one of the most lopsided in SEC history. The Crimson Tide hold a 36-2-1 all-time record in the series. The Wildcats head to Tuscaloosa this weekend, a place where they've never won. Although the programs don't share much resemblance, they do have one thing in common: Bear Bryant is the winningest coach at each school.

USC RT Zach Banner was disappointed to see former players trashing the program. He got into a lengthy back-and-forth with LenDale White over the weekend and was asked about it on Tuesday. "Don't abandon ship," he said in a message directed at former players.

Stanford head coach David Shaw, a big fan of defense himself, had some high praise for what Washington has been able to do on the defensive side of the ball. The top 10 teams meet Friday night at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN: "They are built very smartly with size and a physical nature up front. The secondary guys are long and athletic with linebackers that can run and hit. That's a great combination when you throw a budding superstar like Budda Baker in the mix, who continues to grow and can be one of the top defensive players in our conference. It's the idea of having both of those extremes -- the speed and athleticism on the offensive side -- the size and physical nature up front with length in the secondary. That's how we all try to build them."
