Missed field goals against Clemson will be burned into the memories of NC State fans' minds for a long time, but the Wolfpack took a step in preventing a repeat in 2017, a critical year for the staff. They added Division II kicker Carson Wise (career 21 of 31), who will graduate transfer from Carson-Newman. He has two years of eligibility. Last week, coach Dave Doeren said spring practice had not solved the kicking woes.

The 13 members of the College Football Playoff selection committee -- including new members Gene Smith, Chris Howard and Frank Beamer (pictured here) have concluded their first full meeting together at the Arizona Biltmore. They welcomed the new members and reviewed the protocol. The CFP has not made any changes to its protocol. Howard, the president of Robert Morris University, said, "the sport, the players, the coaches, the administrators, the parents, the fans, they're owed our best effort and intensive concentration on this effort and they're going to get it from me, and from my new fellow members Gene Smith and coach Beamer. I know they've gotten it from the people there already. It's serious good business and it's an honor."

When it comes to top-tier talent, there's a recurring theme with these teams and their ability to produce first-round draft picks. In Mel Kiper Jr.'s latest mock draft, every school on this list, except Florida, has at least one player projected to be taken in the first round.

Myles Garrett may have dominated most of the competition at Texas A&M, but that doesn't mean he didn't struggle at times. The defensive end didn't have nearly as much impact against Power 5 teams

Another spring practice is in the books for Ohio State, and the QBs are wrapping up with some stretching. Even position coach Ryan Day was on the ground getting some work in after the session.

Wonder where Lane Kiffin gets his quick wit? His dad, Monte Kiffin, greeted me as I walked out to the FAU practice field Thursday and cracked, "It's good to see that somebody from Tennessee still talks to Lane. Sometimes, I don't blame them. We never should have left there."

Monte Kiffin, at 77 years young. Is still going strong as a defensive analyst on son Lane Kiffin's staff at FAU. Monte joked that he still calls Lane "Kid" occasionally. "I told him I wasn't coming here and going one and done again like Jacksonville. He better win," Monte quipped.

Riccardo Silva Stadium will be the new name of FIU's football stadium, sources told ESPN. The stadium naming rights deal is for five years, sources said. Silva recently donated $2.26 million for various improvements to the stadium including a new playing surface and video scoreboard. The 46-year old Silva is president and co-owner of Miami FC of the North American Soccer League, which also plays its home games in the same stadium as the Panthers. Silva Stadium will be among a handful of college football stadiums named after individuals that are still alive. Others include Oklahoma State's Boone Pickens Stadium; Kansas State's Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium and SMU's Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

UAB brought back its football program in 2015. On Saturday, the Blazers will hold their spring game, continuing their march toward a return to competition on Sept. 2 against Alabama A&M.

Ohio State could be on the brink of setting another record in the NFL draft. With Gareon Conley now projected as a first-round pick, he and Marshon Lattimore could give the Buckeyes three cornerbacks taken in that round in the last two years, following up Eli Apple from a year ago. According to ESPN Stats and Information, no team has ever done that before. If safety Malik Hooker goes that early as well, like expected, the Buckeyes could become the first to ever have four first-round DBs in a two-year span.

Mark Richt has no plans to name a starting quarterback this spring, in large part because prized signee N'Kosi Perry of Ocala, Fla., won't be on campus until this summer. The battle to replace Brad Kaaya at Miami is wide open, but it's clear that Richt thinks the 6-4, 178-pound Perry, an ESPN 300 prospect, has a chance to come in and win the job. "All I know is he can run like the wind, can really throw it and makes a lot of plays," Richt told ESPN.com. "We'll see what he can do when he gets here."

A new $34 million football facility is coming at Miami and is scheduled to be ready for the 2018 preseason camp. One of the first things Mark Richt did upon arriving back at his alma mater as coach was pledge $1 million for the construction of the complex.
