Early enrollee DT Jordon Scott (No. 34) is an interesting prospect for this Oregon defense. At 6-1, 335 pounds he's obviously a big guy that Oregon can plug in. But he also has a surprising burst. The main questions are how quickly he picks up the scheme and speed of college, as well as his endurance.

Defensive line coach Joe Salave'a works with defensive lineman Elijah George during practice on Wednesday. Salave'a has his work cut out for him with a D-line that ranked among the worst in FBS last season.

Comparing Malik Hooker again to Ed Reed, Greg Schiano called the Ohio State safety an "exciting pick" for an NFL team even coming off an injury. Hooker seems like a lock for the first round, and after starting for just one season, his best football is likely still ahead of him.

The Oregon quarterbacks are wearing sensors on their throwing arms that measure velocity and the number of throws they make (among other stats). Justin Herbert said he doesn't know his exact velocity this season but made sure to mention that it *is* much better than last year.

Oregon running back Kani Benoit said that he, Royce Freeman and Tony Brooks-James don't talk about having the nickname "The Three headed monster," but that he does feel like they can be effective like that during games this season thanks to their depth and varying skill sets.

Oregon co-OC Mario Cristobal said one of his goals for RB Royce Freeman is that his physicality is the same in the fourth quarter as the first, meaning his numbers -- because guys are tired of tackling him at the end of the game -- improve as time goes on.

Oregon co-offensive coordinator Mario Cristobal said that in order for Willie Taggart's staff -- which features coaches from all over the country -- to bond, they've been having a lot of dinners together.

Bill Snyder says he never in his career entertained the idea of becoming an athletic director. On Monday, K-State introduced Gene Parker, a former Iowa deputy, as its new AD. Snyder and Parker talked last week, but they did not discuss the topic of a succession plan for the 77-year-old Snyder, the coach said. "I don't spend any time on it right now," Snyder said of his eventual retirement. He underwent treatment for throat cancer over the past several months.

Bill Snyder, meeting with the media for the last time before the Kansas State spring game on Saturday, is never one to paint a rosy picture that doesn't exist. "The offense is struggling right now," Snyder said when asked of his team's progress through three weeks of spring practice. The Wildcats continue to use Alex Delton as their top QB, with returning starter Jesse Ertz missing this spring because of injury.

Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst anticipates his team's Friday night spring game will be part practice without tackling and part game. He said it would provide an opportunity for several younger players to play. "We'll come back out and play what looks like football hopefully," Chryst said. "That's knock on wood if everything goes good this week." Wisconsin opens its 2017 at home against Utah State on Sept. 1.

During the spring evaluation process, coaches can make one phone call to prospects. A lot of prospects plan to use the call as an opportunity to get important questions answered that can't be done with 140 characters. If coaches have already used their one phone call during the spring, they can't call a prospect again, even if the recruit leaves a message for the coach to call him back.
