Ryan Burns surprised many when he beat out Keller Chryst for the starting QB job at Stanford. Coach David Shaw pointed to two mental areas Tuesday where Burns eclipsed Chryst: pre-snap reads and post-snap decision-making. While both 6-foot-5, 230 pounders look the part — and Chryst was the 2015 backup — it shouldn't be surprising that the QB decision at Stanford comes down to brains rather than big arms or mobility.
