UCF declared itself national champs after finishing undefeated last season. So naturally there's now a sign inside the stadium.
UCF unveiled a 2017 national champions sign just before the start of its spring game Saturday.
It's hard to take away much of anything from a spring game, but Georgia QB Jake Fromm hasn't been sharp. He threw his second interception to William Poole on a poor pass into double coverage late in the third quarter, and he might have had three picks if Richard LeCounte hadn't dropped the ball in the first half.
Georgia's attendance for Saturday's G-Day game was 82,148, the second biggest crowd to watch a spring game in school history. A record 93,000 watched Kirby Smart's first spring game in 2016.
Georgia freshman Justin Fields' first unofficial college TD pass comes on a nice 13-yard throw to Matt Landers in the back of the end zone midway through the 3rd quarter.
Georgia walk-on receiver J.T. Dooley, son of former Tennessee coach Derek Dooley and grandson of legendary UGA coach/athletics director Vince, hauled in a six-yard catch in the G-Day game.
Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, who dropped a rap song entitled "ATD" on SoundCloud earlier this week, scored the first offensive points of the spring game with a 41-yard field goal.
With Tua Tagovailoa sidelined, Jalen Hurts didn't do himself any favors in the quarterback competition, completing 19-37 passes for 195 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Said Nick Saban: "I was not disappointed in the way Jalen played. I think we have some guys that can rush a little bit ... there was way too much pressure on the pocket for the quarterback to operate like we like."
Georgia probably won't match the 93,000 fans who watched Kirby Smart's first spring game in 2016. But there's probably more than 85,000 on hand on Saturday
Georgia's senior class on the field with their 2018 SEC championship rings.
Georgia receivers haven't helped QB Jake Fromm, dropping two long passes that might have been touchdowns. Riley Ridley was injured while trying to haul in a touchdown pass in the end zone. Riley walked off the field and didn't appear to be badly injured.
Georgia QB Jake Fromm threw only seven interceptions as a freshman starter in 2017, but teammate Deandre Baker picked off a poorly thrown pass and returned it for a Pick-6 for the first score in the G-Day game.
Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt's instant reaction on the Vol Network following his first Orange and White spring game was that he needs more competitors in his program. He said nobody's entitled to anything.
Georgia freshman QB Justin Fields, the No. 1 recruit in the country in the ESPN 300, completed 3 of 5 passes on his first possession in the G-Day game. Fields completed his first three passes and the fourth was a drop.
Georgia's West End Zone project is nearing completion. The $63 million project added a new locker room, recruiting area and plaza, which will provide fans access to the stadium from the Sanford Bridge.
Former Georgia tailbacks Nick Chubb and Sony Michel presented the Rose Bowl trophy and "Called the Dogs" before kickoff in Saturday's G-Day game at Sanford Stadium.
The first touchdown pass of Alabama's spring game didn't come until the second quarter, and it didn't come from either Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa. Instead, third-string QB Mac Jones tossed the 65-yard touchdown. Hurts is off to a mediocre start, completing 2-4 passes for 14 yards. Tagovailoa is dressed out but is not expected to play after aggravating a broken finger in his throwing hand last weekend.
Jeremy Pruitt gets his first taste of the Vol Walk leading up to Tennessee's spring game.
The transfer working group did, though, draft one proposal this week to go before the Division I Council in June for a vote. Proposal 2017-108 (notification to transfer) would scrap the old system, in which student-athletes must request a scholarship release in order to leave a school. It would also eliminate -- with possible rule exceptions created on the conference level -- the ability of a school to restrict the destination of a transfer. In the new system, a student-athlete would notify his or her schools of the desire to transfer, then enter the "transfer portal," essentially a database of transfers available to re-recruit. The working group will ask for the rule change to go into effect, if passed, on Oct. 15 of this year.
