Mississippi State didn't throw it much on Saturday night but even when they did, it was enough to hurt them. Nick Fitzgerald threw two first-quarter interceptions that eventually doomed the Dawgs against the elite LSU defense. Their defense and run game is good; they have to find a way to be effective in the air moving forward.

No. 5 LSU comes out with the win it needed (19-3 over Mississippi State) to keep its College Football Playoff hopes intact but suffered a loss in the process, as a fourth quarter targeting call on All-American LB Devin White means the Tigers will be without their defensive leader for the first half of their next game: Alabama.

For those of us who have paid little attention to Purdue before tonight, yes, the Boilermakers started 0-3. But those three losses came by a total of eight points. Purdue won last three (BC/Neb/Ill) by 70 points. Young defense has made huge strides over first half of season.

Not so fast, my friend! Oregon outscored Wazzu 17-0 in the third quarter to turn a would-be rout into a 10-point game. After managing just 39 total yards in the first half, Oregon scored on all three of its possessions coming out of halftime.

Gut punch for LSU: All-American linebacker Devin White ejected for targeting in the fourth quarter vs. Mississippi State. The Tigers have this game in hand but their next game? Alabama. They'll be without their defensive leader in the first half vs. the Crimson Tide. Huge blow for the Tigers.

Alabama center Ross Pierschbacher said it never gets old beating Tennessee. Alabama wins for the 12th straight time in the series, which is the most consecutive losses by the Vols to any team.

I am worried for Pullman. State of Emergency. The Cougs are the story of CFB on this day!! Wow

LSU ended the first half and started the second half better offensively. After seeing their first seven drives go for four plays or fewer, the Tigers' last two drives have gone for 10-plus plays, resulting in a pair of field goals and a 10-point early second half lead over Mississippi State.

Washington State is quickly turning this game into a rout. The Cougars have more touchdowns (3) than Oregon has yards (1).

LSU leads Mississippi State 10-3 at halftime despite having its second-lowest offensive output in a half all season (the Tigers had 79 yards; 78 yards in the second half vs. Southeastern Louisiana is their season-low). The Tigers intercepted Nick Fitzgerald twice, rendering the Bulldogs' passing game nonexistent.

Former Tennessee coach Butch Jones, now an Alabama offensive analyst, puffs on a cigar in a victorious Crimson Tide locker room. The Alabama players also gave Jones a Gatorade shower after the game.

It's not a good night for the forward pass in Baton Rouge. LSU QB Joe Burrow and Mississippi State QB Nick Fitzgerald combined for three first quarter interceptions and have completed a combined 6-of-their-first 15 passes for 34 yards.

Nebraska and coach Scott Frost are going to get their first win. And Adrian Martinez is to credit. The freshman QB is 25 of 29 for 276 yards and three TDs while running for 125 and one score on 15 attempts. ‬The Huskers lead Minnesota 46-22 late.

Many wondered how big a challenge NC State would present to Clemson. It turns out not a big challenge at all. The way the rest of the schedule lays out, Clemson will be an overwhelming favorite from here on out to not only make it back to the ACC title game but the College Football Playoff as well.

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

As close as NC State was to upsetting Clemson the last few years, the opposite is unfolding today in Death Valley. Many wondered how strong the Wolfpack really were after starting 5-0 with no real wins of note. We have an idea now: the gap between the two division teams is still there, larger now, as the Tigers lead 24-0.

Sophomore Dwayne Haskins is undefeated as Ohio State's starting quarterback. After a shaky first half three weeks ago at Penn State, Haskins will be looking to attack Purdue's defense tonight
