The Blue Jays have called up OF Anthony Alford, who left the Ole Miss football team in 2014 to pursue a pro baseball career. Keith Law ranks Alford as the No. 55 overall prospect. More from Law: "When healthy, he's a disciplined hitter for someone so inexperienced, and there's at least average power to go with plus running speed." To make room for Alford, OF Darrell Ceciliani (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day DL. Alford is in Friday night's lineup against the Orioles, playing LF and batting eighth. Hugh Freeze said he was pleased with how spring practice went overall but the injuries in the secondary were a setback for the defense. One area he is very excited about is the OL "If we stay healthy, we should have one of the best offensive lines in the country."

Hugh Freeze says he like the actually early signing date because it can take pressure off of some prospects, but he does not like the early official visits. Freeze said it takes away from the process of getting to know recruits over a longer period of time. Says it can cause staffs to get "reckless" with how they evaluate guys during an expedited timetable. Added that he would have voted to keep the recruiting calendar the way it is.

Count Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze as someone who supports the new redshirt freshman proposal. Calls it a "great option" for players and could benefit players who can help at times but aren't ready to play a full season. It would help teams and players in the postseason as well. Freeze would also be in favor of taking redshirts away and letting players have five years to play.
