The weird, wild ride of Baker Mayfield rolls on

The Heisman finalist's final season started with an arrest. It's the latest turn in a wild career that Mayfield hopes will end on a higher note.

Oklahoma wide receiver Marquise Brown caused a stir this week, when it was revealed he reported to campus weighing 148 pounds. But Oklahoma State receiver Jalen McCleskey is proof that Brown could on weight quickly. McCleskey, who is the top returning receiver in the Big 12 with 73 catches last year, showed up to Stillwater at 150 pounds. Now, he's up to 175. His secret? "Eat whatever you want."

OU OC Lincoln Riley said the Sooners might have their best o-line in the three years he's been there -- the top 8 return, along with QB Baker Mayfield. That bodes well for an offense that is now unproven at WR and RB. He said he thinks they can sustain and build upon their success in spite of losing top playmakers Dede Westbrook, Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon. "We think we've got the blueprint to do it," he said, "and the guys, but we have to figure out what this group can do well and what makes us click."

How Big 12 teams can make the CFP jump

Adding a conference championship game won't necessarily ensure a Big 12 entrant makes the playoff, but it should help contenders like Oklahoma and Oklahoma State strengthen their résumés.
