Race for the North: Oregon State

Oregon State saw some improvement in Year 2 under Gary Andersen, but uncertainty at quarterback might put a ceiling on the Beavers' progress in 2017.

The 2018 class of prospects in Oregon is as strong as the state has been in years, but the Ducks and Beavers still seem to be fighting an uphill battle for in-state recruits. Oregon and Oregon State missed out on elite in-state defensive prospects Marlon Tuipulotu (signed with USC) and Elijah Molden (Washington) last year, and the Huskies again delivered a statement on Wednesday, grabbing a commitment from Oregon product Trey Lowe, who holds offers from Oregon and Oregon State. There are four ESPN JR 300 prospects in Oregon and they are becoming must-get prospects for the Ducks especially. Wide receiver Chase Cota is the son of former Duck great Chad Cota and linebacker Eli'Jah Winston is the younger brother of current Oregon linebacker La'Mar Winston.

OG/C prospect Justin Dedich (Chaparral) had an excellent performance at LA Nike Opening Regional taking home the OL MVP & earning Opening Invite. Really liked on film as well as he is physical, good with leverage & hand placement & displays good awareness. Coming into today's camp said he had 19 offers including UCLA, TCU & Washington & he would like to unofficially visit all the schools that have offered as well as use all 5 official visits.

Three questions for Oregon State in 2017

Oregon State made a jump from 2-10 to 4-8 last season, but needs some improvement in several areas to make that next leap.

Erik McKinney ESPN Staff Writer

The inaugural Polynesian Bowl provided a big boost to Pac-12 recruiting Saturday night, as six prospects announced commitments during the game and five pledged to Pac-12 programs. Oregon was the big winner in the conference, landing four-star linebacker Isaac Slade-Matautia and three-star defensive tackle Austin Faoliu. USC received a commitment from three-star defensive tackle Brandon Pili. Oregon State picked up cornerback Charles Watson and Stanford added three-star linebacker Levani Damuni to its impressive class. The highest rated prospect to commit was ESPN 300 defensive end Langi Tuifua, who committed to BYU.
