Pitt defensive back Avonte Maddox is a communications major, so to start getting some real-world experience, he called a Pitt baseball game for television in the spring. Maddox, who played baseball growing up, had one other duty at the game -- coach Pat Narduzzi threw out the first pitch and Maddox had to save it.

Pat Narduzzi says top recruit Paris Ford "has a plan" to get academically eligible in time for fall camp. He's not currently enrolled but "he has a good chance" to be in by next month. Narduzzi says Ford is enough of a natural athlete that missing the summer wouldn't necessarily impact his potential impact this season.

Pitt lineman and Piesman winner Brian O'Neill said he takes in about 4,500-5,000 calories a day, and the team's dietician makes him text pictures of each meal. "Believe it or not, not every Millennial likes taking pictures of their food," he said.

Pitt receiver Tre Tipton will miss the 2017 season after injuring his knee over the weekend in a non-football related activity. The news is a tough one for Pitt, which heads into fall practice looking to shore up depth behind starters Quadree Henderson and Jester Weah. Last season, Tipton had 12 catches for 142 yards and a touchdown and was expected to have a bigger role this season.
