Ex-Florida State coach Bobby Bowden said he does not know exactly what to think of Lane Kiffin, the brash, 42-year-old coach at FAU: "It's very interesting," Bowden said tonight at the Outland Banquet in Omaha, where he was presented with the Tom Osborne Legacy Award. "Maybe Lane is over the hump. Maybe he's grown up." Kiffin, former head coach of the Oakland Raiders and at Tennessee, led the Owls to an 11-3 record last fall in his first season. "He's got a great personality," the 88-year-old Bowden said. "He knows how to get attention. He mixes good with people, and he might be a great one. I don't know."

Source: Arizona is hiring Florida Atlantic's Garin Justice as offensive line coach. Justice replaces Jim Michalczik, who left recently for Oregon State. Football Scoop first reported Justice's move to Arizona. Justice played offensive tackle for Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia and started his coaching career at WVU.

A year ago, many scratched their heads when Florida Atlantic took a chance and hired Lane Kiffin. That chance turned into the best season in school history. Under Kiffin, FAU won a conference title, the bowl and 11 games -- its most as an FBS program.
