Watson's Heisman hopes unharmed

Deshaun Watson and Clemson had a bye week, and that means out of sight and out of mind. There is little Heisman buzz this week for Watson, but our panel keeps him in the mix. Heisman Watch

Can Clemson shut down Rudolph?

No. 3 Clemson's toughest remaining game could come down to CB Cordrea Tankersley's ability to shut down Florida State WR Travis Rudolph, writes Mel Kiper. Mel & Todd (Insider)

Ben Boulware has a few (nice) words for Travis Rudolph

Ben Boulware will no doubt play with intensity when Clemson meets Florida State, but before that he wants to thank Travis Rudolph for showing compassion to a kid with autism like his brother.

Is Clemson as strong of a team as many predicted preseason? The Tigers are undefeated but have survived several close calls. Florida State's Dalvin Cook said those close wins remind him of the Seminoles' 2014 season. They received every opponent's best shot each week.

Dalvin Cook on the Florida State-Clemson rivalry: "This game has the best players in the country."

Christian Wilkins is a defensive tackle that can play defensive end for Clemson, and Jimbo Fisher knows how rare that it is for a bigger body to move outside. Mario Edwards and Marcus Spears did it on two of Fisher's teams, but "not many guys are athletic enough to do it, and [Wilkins] does a really good job. Big body, strong, great quickness. I've been around a few of them who do it but they're very hard to find."

No. 12 Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher offers an early scouting report on undefeated Clemson, which includes effusive praise for nearly every position.

Utah and Clemson are tied with the most wins decided by one possession this season (4) and since the start of the 2015 season (8). Going back three seasons, the Utes have 13 wins by one score, which is three more than any other team in the FBS – they are 13-5 in that span.

Clemson OC Tony Elliott on Florida State's defense: "They've simplified and just let their athletes go out and play. They look a lot different than the first few games."

David M. Hale ESPN Staff Writer

Clemson OC Tony Elliott was a bit less certain on Wayne Gallman's availability. "He looks fine and we're hopeful," Elliott said. He said there's not a full determination though yet and they have a game plan for any option.

Clemson's Wayne Gallman said "I wanted someone to hurt him" after NC State's Dravious Wright delivered a hit that knocked Gallman unconscious. Gallman said he thought the hit was targeting, but he was told the ACC reviewed the play and said otherwise.

David M. Hale ESPN Staff Writer

Wayne Gallman says Dravious Wright's hit on him that resulted in a concussion was, in his mind, intentionally dirty. "He led with his helmet," Gallman said. The play did not result in a penalty. Gallman said he was knocked unconscious and does not remember anything until he got back to the training room.

Clemson RB Wayne Gallman says he'll be ready to play vs Florida State. "I'm fine, I'm ready to go," he said. Gallman says he went through the concussion protocol last week and expects to be full-go in pads for Thursday's practice.

Tigers-Wolverines projected to CFP

Heading into Week 9, Mark Schlabach and Brett McMurphy predict Clemson and Michigan to clash at the Fiesta Bowl. But the guys don't agree on who will go on to play in the National Championship game. Bowl Projections

Jared Shanker ESPN Staff Writer

A reminder of just how much football is left: The AP top five at Week 9 last season was Ohio State, Baylor, Clemson, LSU, and TCU. They were a combined 36-0. Only one made the College Football Playoff, and the other four ended the regular season with a combined record of 9-9. Don't expect chalk over the final few weeks.

Jared Shanker ESPN Staff Writer

The seven undefeated teams all play on the road this week, and five lost to their Saturday opponent in their last meeting. Second-ranked Michigan and No. 7 Nebraska are on three-game losing streaks to Michigan State and Wisconsin, respectively. The undefeateds (and their fans) might want to make it through this weekend before thinking playoff.

Bowl projections heading into Week 9

Our experts expect to see the same four teams in the College Football Playoff semifinals, though there is a difference of opinion on which ones will make the championship game.
