Dungy backs USF's Taggart for vacant Oregon job

Ex-NFL coach and Tampa resident Tony Dungy told Oregon officials that USF coach Willie Taggart would be a "good fit" in Eugene. Boise State's Bryan Harsin is also in the mix for the vacant job.

Helfrich: Appealed to Kelly to return to Oregon

Mark Helfrich, fired Tuesday as Oregon's football coach, said he reached out to former coach Chip Kelly a couple of weeks ago when Helfrich's seat heated up, asking Kelly to return to the Ducks.

Jim McElwain asked if he's flattered or insulted to be mentioned as a possible candidate for the Oregon opening. He basically laughed through his answer: "I think it's pretty cool to have people like you. ... Anytime someone takes notice, that's pretty cool." San Francisco 49ers coach Chip Kelly stood by his comments a few weeks ago, when he said he was not interested in returning to college football. Kelly did, however, communicate with Mark Helfrich after he was fired by Oregon on Tuesday. Helfrich was Kelly's offensive coordinator at the school, before he left for the NFL. "I have not talked to anyone at Oregon other than Mark Helfrich," Kelly said.
