Grier Week 2's best QB

Five of Will Grier's 25 attempts went for touchdowns in WVU's win over East Carolina. Jalen Hurts did most of his damage on the ground with 154 rushing yards. Two interceptions did not derail Sam Darnold's impressive showing vs. Stanford. Kyle Shurmer was a clean 15-for-18 with three TDs in a 42-0 win over Alabama A&M.

Week 2's best offenses

Sam Darnold and a potent rushing attack helped give USC an almost flawless offensive efficiency. While Josh Rosen did nearly the same for rival UCLA. West Virginia was able to rack up 614 yards of total offense against East Carolina. Finally, Baker Mayfield and OU had little trouble with Ohio State's vaunted defense.

Will Grier put up gaudy traditional numbers today, and his performance translated to a QBR of 98.1 even after an adjustment for East Carolina's sub-par defense. That's a better Total QBR than any qualifying quarterback posted in Week 1.

Dana Holgorsen said he feels good about his team, despite the Virginia Tech loss: "It has the same type of feel as when we lost to Alabama. I thought we played well. That was a heck of a football game. ... We just ran out of time."

Jake Trotter ESPN Staff Writer

Dana Holgorsen on QB Will Grier's first game: "He showed he's going to be a pretty good QB for us. Little rusty early, little jittery early. But once he settled down a little bit, he showed he's a fantastic football player."
