Nick Saban on the early signing period: "I didn't like it when we did it. I don't like it now. ... I don't see how it benefits anybody." He said it's stressful with bowl prep going on and he sees players being pressured to sign early before a "bigger school" offers. "Maybe I shouldn't be speaking like this, but I haven't talked to a coach who's happy with it," he said. "... But we're dealing with it. It is what it is."

Alabama has hired UTSA's Pete Golding as a 10th assistant coach for next season, Saban said. He'll be on the defensive side of the ball. "We'll address the other staff issues once we're finished playing," Saban said.

Alabama got back to work this afternoon. Nick Saban said the next three practices will be like camp, focusing on fundamentals, and then on Tuesday will get back to game preparation for Clemson. Saban reiterated that defensive coordinator/Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt will return on Sunday after wrapping up recruiting for the Vols. Monday is the beginning of the dead period.

The last time Alabama didn't play in the College Football Playoff, BCS National Championship Game or a BCS bowl game was 2010, and there's not a single SEC head coach from that season who's still coaching at his same school.
