Week 5 in the Pac-12: What to watch for

The biggest thing to watch for in the Pac-12 in Week 5 is a top-10 matchup between Washington and Stanford, but that's not all you should watch.

Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen, who faces Colorado this week, gave a very thoughtful answer when asked about the parallels between where he wants his program to be and what CU coach Mike MacIntyre has gone through rebuilding the Buffs: "For Colorado and Coach Mac it's awesome to see it happen. How many times were people ready to say 'This isn't going to work' blah, blah, blah. The bottom line is the kids stuck to the plan, and I have tremendous respect for them. Coach Mac stuck to the plan and I have tremendous respect for him competing back to the days when we were in the WAC together ... In my opinion, it's the most gratifying thing as a head coach in football when you can flip a program. I felt that way as an assistant, but not even as close to the way you feel as a head coach. I know he feels they aren't close to arriving yet. But they are playing a brand of football they haven't played in years."

Coaching winners and losers from Week 4

Gus Malzahn got a huge win -- at the expense of fellow hot-seat staple Les Miles -- while Clay Helton saw his season continue spiraling downward. Plus, what Bobby Petrino's next move should be.

Colorado is sporting these hats following its upset of Oregon:

ESPN Stats and Information

Colorado handed Oregon its second straight loss. The Ducks hadn't lost consecutive games in a season since 2007 (three in a row after QB Dennis Dixon tore an ACL).

Colorado holds off Oregon 41-38

Steven Montez threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns in his first career start and Colorado held off Oregon 41-38 on Saturday, the Buffaloes' first victory over the Ducks since 2011.

Unbelievable, twisting one-handed catch for Colorado TD (0:44)

Colorado's defense has just had an insane turnaround under Jim Leavitt. The Buffs had 14 three-and-outs coming into today and already forced two more. Playing incredibly well on third downs today -- allowing Ducks to convert on just 1-of-7 in the first half.

Colorado quarterback Steven Montez having quite the day in his first start. He has completed 17-of-20 passes, thrown for one TD and has a passer rating of 192.6. He has added 49 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown, which is just enough of a dual threat nature to keep Oregon's defense guessing.

Move in day for Oregon students was Thursday so I was expecting this to be the rowdiest game day yet (especially since it's the Ducks' first conference opponent). But, with kick off in less than 10 minutes, the student section isn't even full yet.

Player news from Colorado-Oregon: Colorado QB Sefo Liufau -- who was injured versus Michigan last weekend -- is warming up in full uniform in Autzen. Looks like he'll be starting. Oregon running back Royce Freeman likely won't start today. He was injured last week versus Nebraska and spotted in a walking boot earlier this week. Back up Kani Benoit is slotted in his place. Oregon redshirt freshman left tackle Brady Aiello is picking up his second start of the season, stepping in for Tyrell Crosby, who suffered a career-ending injury versus Nebraska.
