CU regents approve MacIntyre's extension

Colorado football coach Mike MacIntyre's $16.25 million extension, previously held up by a school investigation, has now been approved by the university's board of regents.

More from Peter Ginsberg, attorney for accuser in Joe Tumpkin case: "For the athletic director and the head coach essentially to promote Tumpkin for a bowl game when they knew they had on their staff an abuser speaks for itself. The idea that they didn't know what to do either reflects extremely poorly on their own ethics or is a disappointing rationalization. ... My client feels betrayed and devastated."

CU suspends chancellor, reprimands coach, AD

The mishandling of allegations of domestic abuse against former Colorado assistant football coach Joe Tumpkin has resulted in a 10-day suspension without pay for school chancellor Phil DiStefano and reprimands for coach Mike MacIntyre and AD Rick George.

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

Peter Ginsberg, attorney for Joe Tumpkin's ex-girlfriend, tells ESPN: "We are deeply disappointed in how cavalierly the university viewed the appropriate discipline. The university ... chose to allow the athletic director and the head coach to essentially go unpunished. It's an unfortunate reflection on the university's priorities."

Kyle Bonagura ESPN Staff Writer

The University of Colorado Board of Regents will meet on Monday to discuss the school's handling of allegations of domestic violence against former assistant football coach Joe Tumpkin. The school is expected to release findings from an outside investigation into how school officials responded after they were made aware of the allegations. If university president Bruce Benson decides discipline for any school officials is appropriate, it is expected that those determinations would also be announced on Monday.

Post-spring 2017 Pac-12 power rankings

Now that every school is finished with spring practice, here's an updated look at how the Pac-12 power rankings will look in 2017.

Todd Archer ESPN Staff Writer

Here is the Dallas Cowboys 2017 draft class: 1. Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan; 2. Chidobe Awuzie, DB, Colorado; 3. Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan; 4. Ryan Switzer, WR, North Carolina; 6. Xavier Woods, S, Louisiana Tech; 6. Marquez White, CB, Florida State; 7. Joey Ivie, DT, Florida; 7. Noah Brown, WR, Ohio State; 7. Jordan Carrell, DT, Colorado.

The Cowboys final pick fell in line with what they had done with most of their first eight picks: a big-school defensive player. Colorado defensive linemen Jordan Carrell was the 248th selection, giving the Cowboys seven defensive players out of nine picks. He started 25 of his 26 games at Colorado and finished with 51 tackles and 5.5 sacks last season in earning honorable mention All-Pac 12 honors.

Here's the 49ers total haul from the 2017 NFL draft: 1A. Solomon Thomas, DL, Stanford; 1B. Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama; 3A. Ahkello Witherspoon, CB, Colorado; 3B. C.J. Beathard, QB, Iowa; 4. With the 111th pick (fourth round), the Seahawks selected Colorado safety Tedric Thompson. Thompson (6 feet, 204 pounds) led all college football players with 23 passes defended last year. He broke up 16 passes (fourth) and had seven interceptions (third). The Seahawks drafted safety Delano Hill yesterday and are adding quality depth behind Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.

As for newly added CB Ahkello Witherspoon, the 49ers are getting a big, physical corner who can play on the outside. Witherspoon is something of a raw prospect who is just scratching the surface of his potential but he flashed plenty of promise at Colorado. Witherspoon led the nation in pass breakups in 2016.

49ers add more D with Ahkello Witherspoon

San Francisco drafted its third straight defender, the tall, athletic Colorado CB, who led the nation with 22 pass breakups in 2016.

With their first pick in the third round, No. 66 overall, the 49ers take Colorado CB Akhello Weatherspoon.

Beyond the QB's, plenty of options for the Niners here as well, though the safety market dried up a bit in the second round. Cornerbacks like Akhello Weatherspoon and Desmond King are still on the board. Other players to watch: Toledo RB Kareem Hunt, Eastern Washington WR Cooper Kupp, Clemson TE Jordan Leggett and Iowa TE George Kittle. Kansas State pass rusher Jordan Willis also still on the board.

The Cowboys continued to address their defense, following up the selection of defensive end Taco Charlton in the first round with Colorado cornerback Chidobe Awuzie. A four-year starter, he had three interceptions, 27 pass deflections, three forced fumbles, eight sacks and 19 tackles for loss in his last two years. With the losses of Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne in free agency, the Cowboys have a ready-made corner with some position flexibility.

Cowboys land CB Chidobe Awuzie

Needing reinforcements in the secondary, Dallas got it in the second round with the Colorado cornerback, whom Mel Kiper Jr. thinks has the much-needed skill set to defend against bubble screens and short passes.
