Notre Dame's Mike McGlinchey and Quenton Nelson rank among the top 2018 NFL O-line prospects. The younger Nelson (6-5, 325) has caught Kiper's eye since last preseason.

No coach from a major program enters the season feeling more heat than Brian Kelly. After a 4-8 fiasco in 2016, he desperately needs a win against the Bulldogs on Sept 9.

The pick of QB DeShone Kizer changes the feel of this draft. The Browns have a young quarterback to groom and help grow to go with three talented players taken in the first round. There were points of last season that the combination of Myles Garrett and Kizer would have thrilled people. There's no reason it shouldn't be a reason for excitement now.

Very interested to see how QB DeShone Kizer develops under Hue Jackson. The talent, size and arm strength is there with Kizer. He flashes on the tape. And Jackson is one of the best teachers in the NFL.

Browns get their QB in DeShone Kizer

Cleveland waited until the 52nd pick to take the Notre Dame signal-caller, who has Ben Roethlisberger-like size and strength, but Mel Kiper Jr. cautions against throwing him onto the field as a starter right away.

Browns take Kizer, 'surprised' QB there in R2

The Browns said DeShone Kizer's willingness to learn in the pre-draft process was a big reason they selected the former Notre Dame QB in the second round Friday night.

Pat McManamon ESPN Staff Writer

The Browns took their shot at a quarterback when they took Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer in the second round. Kizer has physical skills — size, a strong arm — but he needs work on fundamentals and in understanding an NFL offense. He's an intriguing pick given his potential, but he needs to work to realize that potential.

Is Friday the day the Browns, 49ers, Saints or Cardinals pick their QB of the future? DeShone Kizer, Joshua Dobbs, Nathan Peterman and Davis Webb lead the best signal-callers available headed into the second night of the NFL draft.

ESPN Stats and Information

If DeShone Kizer comes off the board in the second round Friday night, he'd be the fifth Notre Dame QB to go in the first two rounds in the common draft era. But history isn't kind -- the previous four went a combined 35-85 as starters in the NFL.

First 2018 class rankings: Notre Dame

The Fighting Irish are bouncing back on the recruiting trail after a very tough season on the field in 2016. ESPN 300 safety Derrik Allen was a huge win out of Georgia.

Tom VanHaaren ESPN Staff Writer

After a 4-8 season, Notre Dame is off to a great start in the 2018 recruiting class. The Irish have four ESPN 300 commitments coming from safety Derrick Allen, ranked No. 69 overall, quarterback Phil Jurkovec, running back Markese Stepp and athlete Braden Lenzy. While the number of ESPN 300 commitments isn't extraordinary, the class is currently ranked No. 7 overall in the ESPN class rankings.
