BOULDER, Colo. -- Colorado's Aija Putnina was suspended one
game for throwing an elbow to the face of Kansas' Shaquina Mosley,
the Big 12 announced Monday.
Putnina was ejected from Sunday's contest after landing the
elbow when Mosley came down with a missed 3-pointer with 59 seconds
left in the first half. Mosley suffered a concussion, the
conference said in a statement.
"Although Ms. Putnina may not have intended to strike her
opponent, the swinging of her elbow was dangerous and led to
excessive contact that caused injury," Big 12 Commissioner Kevin
Weiberg said in a statement. "We will continue to penalize this
type of conduct and convey the message that it is unacceptable."
Putnina will serve her suspension Tuesday, when Colorado faces
conference rival Nebraska.
In a statement, CU athletic director Mike Bohn said he and coach
Kathy McConnell-Miller support the Big 12's decision.
Colorado beat Kansas 59-50.
