HARTFORD, Conn. -- The newspaper that hired a daughter of Connecticut women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma says she will continue to write a monthly blog for its Web site, but will no longer be paid.
Hartford Courant sports editor Jeff Otterbein said Saturday that Alysa Auriemma was paid for posts in July and August, but will not be paid for future posts to "avoid any appearance of impropriety."
The controversy began earlier this month when a Courant writer said Auriemma was hired to help cover the six-time national champions by writing blogs, stories and participate in question-and-answer sessions. Otterbein later clarified, saying Auriemma would be a "celebrity blogger" and her role would be reevaluated.
Auriemma did not immediately return a message seeking comment. On her personal blog, the 23-year-old UConn grad says she's pleased with the outcome.
