Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said newly minted manager Mickey Callaway impressed the organization so much that there was no need to do a second-round interview with the former Indians pitching coach.

With Carmelo Anthony gone, there are more touches to go around for the Knicks. As you might expect, budding star Kristaps Porzingis is taking on much of the extra work.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said maligned CB Buster Skrine "had some technique errors" against the Dolphins. "It wasn't his finest day." That's putting It mildly. Bowles hinted that Jarvis Landry's TD in the first quarter was on Skrine, which would mean he allowed three TD passes in the loss. Still, he won't get benched, according to Bowles.

The Suns have asked about young Knicks such as Frank Ntilikina and Willy Hernangomez in trade talks about guard Eric Bledsoe, sources confirm. But New York have been opposed to trading either young player, sources told ESPN. Hernangomez has not been in head coach Jeff Hornacek's regular rotation in the first two games of the season, which has left the second-year center frustrated. But Hernangomez's lack of playing time isn't a sign that the club is looking to move him. Ntilikina has dealt with several injuries early in his career but the point guard remains part of the young core New York wants to build around and management, as of Monday afternoon, did not want to move him in a Bledsoe deal. The Suns' interest in Hernangomez and Ntilikina was first reported by Basketball Insiders.

Jets coach Todd Bowles defended the strategy and the play selection on Josh McCown's interception. Asked if they should've called a safer play than a sideline pass, Bowles said it was no different than if it were a running play and the back fumbled. But it was different because the odds of fumbling are much less than an interception. Bowles said he wanted to "go for the win. (McCown) didn't see the guy. He made a mistake. He'll learn from it. ... I don't feel any regrets about the play."

After watching Robby Anderson's helmet spike/unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty, Jets coach Todd Bowles said, "We don't condone anything like that. We don't tolerate anything like that. It won't happen again." Bowles said he talked to Anderson about it and "we're on the same page." He said Anderson has to "find a better way to handle his frustration and he will." Bowles refrained from commenting after the game because he said he didn't see it.

As he did after the game, Jets QB Josh McCown took ownership of his killer interception. Reflecting today, he called it "just a bad feeling. It's something I'll learn from and move on. I want to be better in that situation. I plan to be better in that situation. ... I hate it for our team in that moment. I hate it for everybody because we all wanted to win."

McAdoo: "I don't see that point coming. Eli is our QB. I have 100% confidence in Eli." So ... don't expect Davis Webb anytime in the near future.

The Knicks are among the teams who have reached out to Phoenix recently about trading for guard Eric Bledsoe, per league sources.

Ben McAdoo asked about potentially playing Davis Webb later this season sidesteps the question saying it "takes all 11 to be good on offense." Not willing to address this subject now.

Jeff Hornacek says Frank Ntilikina will not play on Tuesday against Boston due to an ankle injury. Ntilikina missed most of practice Monday but Hornacek said the rookie's lateral movement has improved and the Knicks hope to have him back for Friday's game against Brooklyn. Ntilikina has missed two games with the ankle sprain, which he suffered in practice Friday. He missed the final four games of the preseason with a knee contusion and the entire summer league with a similar injury. Hornacek said the organization isn't worried about Ntilikina, whom they selected with the No. 8 overall pick, being injury-prone. The coach said the 19-year-old's ailments are a result of playing with maximum effort. "He's playing as hard as he can .... I can't complain about that."

Mickey Callaway is to be introduced Mon. as the 21st manager in Mets history. Mickey Cochrane, who won a pennant & a W.S. in the first 2 seasons of his 1934-'38 run with the Detroit Tigers, and Mickey Vernon, who led the expansion Washington Senators from 1961-'63, are the only 2 MLB managers with that first name. Cochrane, a Hall of Fame catcher, was a player-mgr for most of his tenure.

Jets film review: I had no problem with the decision to try for a game-winning drive with 47 seconds left and the ball at the 15 (and three timeouts), but the play call was terrible. And so was the execution by QB Josh McCown. The Jets should've tried a safe play on first down -- a draw or a pass to RB Matt Forte. Miami played a four-man box, so a run probably would've picked up decent yardage. The middle was open, so a short throw there would've picked up a nice chunk. Instead, McCown threw into the teeth of the defense and was intercepted. Miami dropped eight and rushed three.
