Jeff Hornacek won't reveal if Kristaps Porzingis will start tonight. But Porzingis will likely play in short bursts of minutes tonight according to Hornacek. Porzingis had to get over last hurdle with MRI and warmup before being cleared. He said his Achilles felt it was at 90% recently.

Nets' CMO comes out

Nets chief marketing officer Elisa Padilla came out in an essay posted by The Advocate on Thursday morning. She also announced the Nets will host a Pride Night on January 25. That will feature Jason Collins, the NBA's first openly gay active player. He last played in 2013-14 for Brooklyn. The Advocate

The Mets have hired former major league catcher Chad Kreuter to serve as St. Lucie manager. Marc Valdes will serve as pitching coach and Valentino Pascucci will be the hitting coach for the Florida State League club.

Rose finishes strong on the boards

Derrick Rose compiled 12 points and seven rebounds in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's win over the Celtics. While it was the 83rd time in Rose's career he had a dozen points in a period, Elias Sports Bureau notes it was the first time he had seven boards in a quarter.

The Maple Leafs have three of the top five rookie point scorers in the NHL: Auston Matthews (38) is first, Mitch Marner (36) is third, and William Nylander (29) is tied for fourth. The Leafs, who play host to the Rangers tonight, have the NHL's best power play since Dec. 22 at 43 percent (15 of 35). The second-best power play since then belongs to the Rangers: 30 percent (10 of 33).

Jets owner Woody Johnson will be the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, President-elect Donald Trump announced today in Washington. Trump referred to Johnson as "ambassador" during remarks at a D.C. luncheon, per the NY Post. This has been rumored for months. Johnson, a major Trump fundraiser, said recently it "would be an honor to be considered" for the post. Johnson would be required to live in England. He'd probably have to give up day-to-day control of the team. His brother, Christopher, reportedly could assume that role.
