The 31st pick belongs to the Hornets now, after they acquired it from the Hawks in the Dwight Howard trade. It was originally traded from Brooklyn to Atlanta way back in 2012, as part of the Joe Johnson sign-and-trade deal.

Adding injury to insult, Chase Headley was unavailable tonight due to back spasms. Yankees manager Joe Girardi is unsure if Headley can play Friday.

As part of the Lakers' trade with the Brooklyn Nets this week, the Lakers acquired the No. 27 pick in the draft, which was used to select 6-foot-9 Utah forward Kyle Kuzma.

The Yankees have lost eight of their last nine games. The latest defeat, a 10-5 loss to the Angels, came in embarrassing fashion as the Yankees blew an early 5-1 lead. The one bright spot, as usual, was Aaron Judge, who hit a three-run homer in the second. It was his MLB-leading 25th of the year.

With the No. 27 overall pick, the Nets selected Kyle Kuzma (F, Utah). but don't get attached to him, Brooklyn fans. This is the pick that's going to the Lakers in the agreed-upon trade that will send Brook Lopez to Los Angeles, with D'Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov coming to Brooklyn.

Phil Jackson didn't rule out the possibility of the Knicks trading their two second-round picks (44 & 58) for a higher pick. Members of the organization are high on Xavier's Edmund Summer and Villanova's Josh Hart, per sources. Also on their radar in the second round, among other players, are Deonte Burton, Kennedy Meeks and Nigel Williams-Goss, sources say.

Nets select Jarrett Allen No. 22. Allen is one of 2 players from the University of Texas to be drafted in the first round in the last 5 seasons (Myles Turner, 2015). He was 1 of 2 players in the Big 12 to average at least 13 points and 8 rebounds last season.

With the No. 22 overall pick, the Nets selected Jarrett Allen (F, Texas). Brooklyn – which would've had the No. 1 overall pick, if not for the pick swap that was part of the Kevin Garnett/Paul Pierce trade – picked up this selection from the Wizards in a trade back in February.

Jarrett Allen is 15th overall in ESPN's analytic draft model. 17% chance he will be at least a starter level player.

Call from Trump triggers shift in Jets' oversight

Jets owner Woody Johnson will be nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. His brother, Christopher, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the team.

The Yankees' Dellin Betances just gave up a go-ahead RBI single to Albert Pujols in the seventh. Pujols drove in Cameron Maybin, who had stolen second and reached thrid on a Gary Sanchez throwing error. It is 6-5, Angels over the Yankees in the 7th.

Calipari wanted Monk on the Knicks (1:58)

League source says the Nets had their eyes on Michigan's D.J. Wilson and wanted to move up into the top 15 but didn't have enough assets to do so. The Milwaukee Bucks selected Wilson at 17.

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

So how will the Jets be affected if Woody Johnson heads to the United Kingdom as U.S. ambassador? Probably not much at all; it's not as if he's a day-to-day fixture at the team facility. He'd be consulted on big decisions, but his brother, Christopher Johnson, would handle the day-to-day stuff as the new chairman/CEO. He's a minority owner and passionate about the team, people tell me. I've spoken to him a couple of times. He's personable, engaging and a good listener.

Jackson is a big fan of Ntilikina (1:52)

Coley Harvey ESPN Staff Writer

This Phil Jackson comment on Ntilikina (if you think of it with the Porzingis/Melo drama in mind) was interesting: "He leads his teammates well. He follows directions. Very good at that." Jackson was discussing Ntilikina's strengths, in context of how he filled his role in France. Still, interesting.
