Note: The Giants have a game tonight. Sticking to their normal plan. Nothing special for the solar eclipse.

Through 15 practices and two games, this is the unofficial tally for the Jets' quarterbacks: Christian Hackenberg 365 snaps, Josh McCown 332 and Bryce Petty 227. All things considered, that's about as even as could be expected.

Checking out the Jets' snap counts from last night: The most noteworthy player is WR Charone Peake, who played only two of 59 offensive snaps. He saw his reps reduced last week in practice, as they used Robby Anderson, Jalin Marshall and Chris Harper as their top three. Rookie Chad Hansen (33 snaps) led all WRs. Fellow rookie ArDarius Stewart had 17. Other rookies: S Jamal Adams and S Marcus Maye 37 apiece, TE Jordan Leggett 23, LB Dylan Donahue 23, WR Gabe Marks 19, RB Elijah McGuire 14 and CB Derrick Jones 8.

So why did Jets coach Todd Bowles decide to sit Josh McCown? On Thursday, Bowles said McCown "will play" against the Lions. "He needs work." After tonight's game, Bowles said he and his staff decided McCown didn't need the work. "Josh has played in a million preseason games," Bowles said. Clearly, Bowles still was in audition/experimental mode. This really puts the pressure on McCown and the offense to get in sync next week against the Giants, assuming he rests his starters in the finale.

Jets QB Christian Hackenberg on whether he's discouraged by his performance: "No, it's fine. It's all part of the process. You can't look at numbers or stats or anything like that, in my opinion. You have to look at what it was, go back to the tape, review it ... Overall, I think it was a good learning experience." (Courtesy: ESPN New York 98.7).

Jets coach Todd Bowles isn't ready to end the quarterback competition. Asked if he's prepared to name Josh McCown the Week 1 starter, Bowles said, "Not at this point." Bowles cut Christian Hackenberg a lot of slack, saying the pass protection wasn't good. Bowles said this game "isn't a fair evaluation ... I don't think anyone would've had a chance when we're blocking like that."

LIONS 16, JETS 6, final: Todd Bowles gave Christian Hackenberg a shot, and it didn't work out. Now the decision is clear: Josh McCown should be named the starter. Maybe Hackenberg couldn't have changed that, even f he played well. Now it's a no-brainer. Frankly, the bigger question is, who's the No. 2 quarterback? Bryce Petty did a decent job.

Backup Jets S Rontez Miles -- and a key special teamed -- has an eye laceration and is being evaluated for a concussion, per the Jets.

For a guy who hasn't received many practice reps, QB Bryce Petty has done a decent job for the Jets. He brings a certain energy to the offense. Petty hasn't delivered in the red zone, but at least he's led a couple of FG drives. Perry's roster spot should be secure.

Safety Rontez Miles is doubtful to return with an eye laceration and also being evaluated for a concussion.
