Tanaka also will lose a hit and earned run that came in the April 17 loss to Miami. Cameron Maybin originally had reached on a hit plus an error. GM Mike Maccagnan declined this week to say how much value he puts on hand size, saying he doesn't want to tip his intentions. If he picks Baker Mayfield (9 1/4 inches), we'll know it doesn't matter much in his opinion. Sam Darnold (9 3/8), Josh Rosen (9 7/8) and Josh Allen (10 1/8) have bigger hands than Mayfield.
Accuracy? Check. Playmaking ability? Check. Attitude? Affirmative. Baker Mayfield has the talent and the "it" factor to put the Jets back on the map.
