Phil Jackson says his biggest mistake as president of the Knicks was turning down the chance to trade for Jae Crowder in the deal that sent Ray Felton and Tyson Chandler to Dallas in the summer of 2014. "I liked Crowder but I thought he wouldn't get much of a chance to play behind Carmelo, so I took the pick which turned out to be Cleanthony Early," Jackson said in an interview conducted after the season that was published Friday by Today's Fastbreak. Crowder would have been a phenomenal fit for the Knicks, so this misstep certainly hurt the franchise. As a reporter, I appreciate Phil's candor here.

Jets starting RT Breno Giacomini, on the PUP list with a back injury, addressed the media for the first time. He said he suffered a lower-back injury in June minicamp. He claimed to be making progress, but admitted he's at only "80 percent speed" right now. He didn't sound optimistic about opening Day, admitting regular-season PUP is a possibility. That would shelve him a minimum of six games. The original prognosis was six to eight weeks, from what I understand. Ben Ijalana and Brent Qvale are rotating at the position, but they're looking outside the organization as well, Todd Bowles said.

Jets WR Brandon Marshall reflected on the 2015 offseason, when he practiced with Ryan Fitzpatrick for the first time. "He was terrible, he really was," Marshall said. "He was coming off a broken leg. There was a 5-yard hitch route and he'd throw it in the dirt. Everybody felt that way. We were like, 'What the heck? If Geno (Smith) goes down, we're in trouble.' That's how everybody felt. But he proved us wrong. He's pretty good."

What could Manning do with Beckham and Cruz?

The Giants have yet to really find out. Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz have both been on the field for just 3 percent of Eli Manning's attempts over the last two seasons, with encouraging results in the small sample size.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said he's not sure if RT Breno Giacomini (back) will be ready for the opener. Considering adding a RT.
